Sorting Service Episodes by recent activity

9 September 2026

Your list of Service Episodes now opens with the ones you worked on most recently at the top, instead of the oldest or the most recently created. There are also two new date columns you can sort by.

What you'll notice first

Open either the Service Episodes page or My Service Episodes on your Dashboard, and the list is sorted by Last Activity, newest first — the journey you last recorded something against sits at the top.

Before this change, the Service Episodes page opened sorted by Last Updated and your Dashboard list by when each Service Episode was created — and no column was marked as the one being sorted on, so there was no way to tell. Now the Last Activity header carries a chevron on first load.

Two new columns

ColumnWhat the date means
Last ActivityWhen an Activity under this Service Episode was last created or edited
Last Entry ChangeWhen particular Referral details behind this Service Episode were last saved
Last Entry Change is narrower than it sounds

It does not move for every edit you make to the Referral. It is updated when you save Consent, Cultural Profile, Intake Assessment, or Service Delivery Preferences — and nothing else. Editing other parts of the Referral leaves this date where it was.

Deleting an activity doesn't move the date back

Last Activity is stamped when an Activity is created or edited. Deleting one afterwards leaves the date as it was, so a journey can show a Last Activity date with nothing on its timeline to match.

Sorting the list yourself

On the Service Episodes page you can sort by Client, Start Date, Last Updated, Last Activity and Last Entry Change. Select a header once to sort by it, and again to reverse the direction.

Service, Status, Assigned Staff and Actions are not sortable — selecting those headers does nothing.

While the re-sorted list loads, the rows you're already looking at stay on screen, a thin progress line runs along the top of the table, and the arrow on the column you selected spins. Previously the whole table — headers included — was replaced by a fixed-height placeholder, so it visibly jumped as the real rows arrived and the headers briefly stopped responding to clicks.

Filtering by a date range

The same two dates are also available as filters on the Service Episodes page. Next to the search box is a dropdown offering Last Updated, Last Activity and Last Entry Change — pick which date you want to filter on, and a date-range picker appears beside it for that date.

So "everything I haven't touched since August" is a date range on Last Activity, and "everyone whose consent or assessment details changed last week" is a date range on Last Entry Change.

Where this doesn't apply

  • Completed Care doesn't get the new columns and still opens in its previous order, by Last Updated. Sorting there did get the same fixes, though — selecting a header a second time now reverses the order properly, which it didn't before.
  • If you do both intake and casework, your Dashboard's My Service Episodes table gets the new Last Activity order, but its headers are not selectable — you can read the order, not change it. Use the Service Episodes page to sort.
  • Supervisors and programme managers don't have this table on their Dashboard at all, so nothing changes there.
On a narrow screen the new columns are hidden

Last Activity and Last Entry Change only appear on wide displays. On a smaller laptop screen or a tablet the list is still sorted by Last Activity — you just can't see the column it's sorting on.
